Transportation is a major pollution contributor, they produce significant amounts of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide. In 2013, transportation contributed more than half of the carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons emitted into our air.

How are gummy bears - Haribo products distributed around the world?

After the Gummy bears are packaged, they must be somehow shipped and sent around the world. Although there are over 16 factories, the gummies must be shipped to over 100 countries. The gummy bears would mostly be shipped by cargo ships, or by a plane. Then after that, it has to then be driven or sent to a store and be placed on a shelf, by using different modes of transportation such as cars, trucks, trains bicycling or walking.

One of the world's largest container ships can emit about as much pollution as 50 million cars. The 15 largest ships in the world emit as much nitrogen oxide and sulfur oxide as the world's 760 million cars.

Ecological footprint

Haribo has pretty big ecological footprints mainly because of the transportation. Because the company is so big a lot of transportation is needed.

Did YOU know that 75% of Haribo's ecological footprint is from transportation

 To reduce               here is what

HARIBO has been trying to do

Haribo works closely with their suppliers and logistics partner to ensure they minimise the impact any transportation has on the environment. Their main distributor of the finished product is also committed to minimising its impact on the environment.

They also encourage their employees to use sustainable modes of transport by walking, cycling or public transport.

They run an annual Cycle to Work scheme giving their employees the opportunity to purchase a bike for commuting at reduced costs.
